Alright, let’s talk electronics for a bit. We’re in a time where gadgets have become essentials for many kids. PCs, phones, computer tablets, smart watches, gaming systems, smart home devices…the list is long and will continue to grow. If it were up to only me, my tween girls wouldn’t have access until they’re adults. I know…I’m a little old-fashioned. I grew up running through fields, exploring forests, and spending my days by rivers—my mom would have to drag me back home.
Times have changed, at least in my household. And while I do have some controls around screen time and the content accessed, I’ve had to give in on devices now and then—the tablet computer is one of a few electronics our kids do have. With that said, here are my tablet picks that are great choices for any tween need.

Apple iPad (9th Generation)
It’s a classic for a reason. This beauty has a 10.2-inch Retina display, and it’s powered by the A13 Bionic chip (which sounds way fancier than I understand). The front camera is ultra-wide, perfect for all those selfies and video calls. It’s got a solid battery life to get them through the day and then some. This also comes in 64GB or 256GB storage options, which your choice will depend on how much room they’ll need for games, apps, and…homework?! Yeah, we’ll go with that.

Apple iPad (10th Generation) (My Pick)
This is the one our tween girls both have—the 10th gen iPad is a sleek option with its all-screen design and 10.9-inch Liquid Retina display. It also has the A14 Bionic chip and comes in four colors, a nice combo of power and style. And for all you aspiring Picassos out there, with the optional Apple Pencil, it’s a dream for drawing and note-taking. This model comes in 64GB or 256GB, my suggestion with storage…you can never have enough.

SAMSUNG Galaxy Tab A9+
This is a solid Android tablet if you’re not team Apple, or want a more cost-effective option. The 11” screen is great for everything from homework to gaming, and the upgraded chipset makes sure everything runs smoothly. Plus, with the 128GB storage version (and expandable), your tween won’t run out of space anytime soon. The quad speakers and bright display will keep any kid entertained—whether that’s a good thing or bad thing, I’ll leave that up to you.

Amazon Fire HD 10 Tablet Computer
If you’re looking for something even more budget-friendly but still packed with features, the Fire HD 10 is worth checking out. It has a full HD display, up to 13 hours of battery life, and 32 or 64 GB of storage (expandable to 1 TB). Perfect for reading, gaming, and streaming…especially if your household is already a part of the Amazon ecosystem.

Lenovo Tab M10 Plus
Our kids’ first tablet computer was a Lenovo, a solid choice for their first. This one’s perfect for those who want a more premium look without the premium price. With its sleek metal back, slim design, and 10.3” full HD display, it’s perfect for both schoolwork and entertainment. It’s got a fast Octa-Core processor, and the Dolby Atmos gives it that nice audio boost.
While I’m still holding onto some of those old-school values for my tween kids, there’s no denying that tablets are a great tool for both fun, learning, and staying in touch. But I make sure my tweens are often reminded that the best memories are still made outside the screen.
