The first time I visited Cheekwood was back in 2010, and it was all thanks to Dale Chihuly’s glass exhibition. If you’ve ever seen Chihuly’s work, you know it’s not something you easily forget. His breathtaking glass sculptures blended seamlessly with Cheekwood’s stunning gardens, and I was in awe of the entire experience.
Then life happened. We moved away from Tennessee, and I didn’t get the chance to return for many, many years. But in October 2023, I finally made it back for the Bruce Munro Outdoor Light Exhibition—and just like that, I fell in love all over again.
That night, within the glowing art installations, I decided that we needed a family a membership so we all can enjoy Cheekwood throughout the year. And that’s exactly what I did.

What is Cheekwood?
If you’ve never been, Cheekwood Estate & Gardens is one of Nashville’s hidden gems. Once the private home of Mabel and Leslie Cheek, this 1930s estate has transformed into a 55-acre botanical garden, arboretum, art museum, and cultural center.
Here’s what you’ll find when you visit:
- A 1.5-mile woodland sculpture trail weaving through nature and art.
- 13 distinct gardens, each offering something new with the seasons.
- The historic Cheek Mansion, featuring period rooms and curated art galleries.
- Rotating art exhibitions, bringing fresh experiences year-round.
- Live music, workshops, and seasonal programs for visitors of all ages.
The best part? No two visits ever feel the same. Every season brings something new, making it a place you’ll want to return to again and again.
Pro tip: There are plenty of places to have a small picnic, whether it’s a planned lunch or relaxing break, the scenery can inspire just about anyone.
Here’s what we bring to help make those moments happen:
- Picnic backpack
- Picnic blanket
- Water bottles
- Snack container
- Portable Handheld Misting Fan
- Uno card game
- Selfie stick

Membership vs. One-Time Visit
Sure, you can grab a one-time ticket (Gardens Only, or Gardens + Mansion), but if you plan to visit more than once, a membership is well worth it. For me, the choice was easy—I knew I’d be coming back again and again.
As a member, you get:
✔ Unlimited general admission & parking (some special exhibits may require a surcharge).
✔ Access to Members-Only events & exhibition previews.
✔ Discounts on workshops, classes, and special programs.
✔ Early registration for children’s camps (a must if you have little ones!).
✔ 10% off at the Cheekwood Gift Shop & Café 29.
✔ Exclusive early access to the gardens on Member Mornings.
✔ Reciprocal admission to hundreds of gardens & museums through SERM and AHS networks.
For me, it wasn’t just about saving money. It was about being part of something special.

Seasonal Must-Sees at Cheekwood
One of the reasons I love Cheekwood is that it transforms with every season. No matter when you go, there’s something unique to experience. Case in point, the image above is from their Trolls exhibit.
Spring: Cheekwood in Bloom—over 250,000 bulbs burst into color.
Summer: Thursday Night Out—live music, drinks, and golden-hour strolls.
Fall: The Harvest Festival—pumpkins, hayrides, and crisp autumn air.
Winter: Holiday LIGHTS—a one-mile wonderland of twinkling magic.
And if you’re into live performances, Cheekwood’s music events are top-notch:
- Thursday Night Out Performances—live bands in the gardens.
- Under the Stars Concert Series—classical and contemporary music outside.
- Winter Concerts in the Mansion—cozy, intimate, and unforgettable.

A Celebration of Art & Culture
Cheekwood isn’t just about flowers—it’s a place where art meets nature in the best way.
- The second floor of the Historic Mansion houses Cheekwood’s permanent art collection, alongside rotating exhibits.
- Outdoor sculptures line the walking trails, blending seamlessly with the landscape.
- Workshops & hands-on experiences let visitors explore their own creativity.
Whether you’re an art lover, a history buff, or just someone who appreciates the beauty of nature, there’s always something to discover.

Why Cheekwood is Worth the Visit
There are places you visit once and check off your list. Cheekwood isn’t one of them. Every time I step onto the grounds, whether it’s for a spring bloom, an art exhibit, or a twinkling holiday night, I find something new to love. So, if you’ve never been—or if it’s been years since your last visit—go. You won’t regret it.
